The 2001 year is important not only to the Buddhists-laymen of Russia, but also to the whole multinational society of the Russian Federation. The beginning of the millenium coincides with the 55-th year of the rebirth of Buddhism in Russia. Ivolginski Datsan was founded in 1946. The times when religion was subjected to certain restrictions had passed, but tremendous activities for the rebirth of the religion ,reconstruction of temples, cult buildings, preparation of clergymen are still going on.

The Ivolginski Datsan became the center of Buddhism in Russia, the official residence of Pandido Hambo-Lama, the Head of the Buddhists of Russsia. There the official meetings and the meetings of clergymen are held. On requests of believers and laymen different rituals and services are conducted there.

Nowadays temples and buildings of the datsan are used as classes for the Buddhist institute “Dashi Choinkhorling”, which prepares clergymen and specialists in Tibetan medicine, Philosophy, translators of the Old Mongolian and Tibetan languages and masters of the Buddhist Art. At present there are about 140 students(novices) from different parts of Russia, from the Near and the Far Abroad.

There are many cult buildings on the territory of the Ivolginski Datsan, they are historical and cultural monuments.

For those people, who has karmic connection with the Ivolginski Datsan, has ever visited, received help or treatment, and also all other people of good will, we let them know that in May 2001 the construction of the first brick temple on the territory of the Ivolginski Datsan will start.
